Since quitting my full time job in 2018, we have been doing 35-40 weddings per year. 2020 was right on track for that same number when COVID hit. Suddenly over half of my scheduled weddings were rescheduled or cancelled, all of my international weddings were moved and most of the weddings I did do were significantly scaled back.
2020 did introduce a new form for weddings: The Micro Wedding! What is a Micro Wedding anyway? According to Brides.com, it's a small intimate wedding with less than 50 guests. The day our lockdown started in March, I did 2 of these micro weddings in one day.
And let me tell you, THEY ARE SO SPECIAL. There is a feeling and energy in a micro wedding that is lost on the larger guest list weddings. It's a feeling of not taking anything for granted, being surrounded by only your most important people and doing the only thing that matters: getting married.
I hope this is a trend that continues. No one should feel like they are missing out with a micro wedding. It's the best of doing an elopement but also getting a small amount of guests. It's the same number of guests you might have at a destination wedding but here at home. We even got to do a micro destination wedding this year in Colorado!
